Steven Forést - I am lost
Hi all,
I made a track with Live and my new APC40 and this is the result!
Unfortunately, video and tone are not really synchronous, cause I
put another sound file under the video, because of the bad sound
quality of my camera and I cut the video by myself.
But in any case - just listen!
Let me know, if you want to hear more..

Eliot Lipp "OHM 64 Tutorial"
I've dug Eliot Lipp ever since hearing his track on the Hefty 10 Digest release
back in 2006. Cool to see his controller layout here, make sure to stick
around for the serious sh*t he drops live at the end:
Producer/DJ "Eliot Lipp" shows us how he uses his Livid Instruments "OHM 64"

was at Aces Lounge and promoted by Third Eye Productions.

ReBirth App Update!
Update on iTunes for the fantastic ReBirth app. Now to version 1.1! Big thanks to tonalaxis for pointing this out on the PUF. The new version includes the famous Sid Station Mod designed by Massen and Elektron for the original ReBirth software; as well as RB-SEMx a Mod that Peff had a hand in designing with graphics inspired by the Oberheim OB-Mx.
From ReBirth Museum:
Sidstation Mod 2.0

A new masterpiece by Massen and Elektron ESI AB. This fantastic mod is a RBM version of the famous sidstation synth. The sounds are all samples from the sidstation. Bleeps galore!

One of the best 'theme' mods out there, very original. Graphics have an Oberheim-ish design and the drumsounds are made with analog synths!

- Better performance
- Fixes to a few bugs

259e Sequence
Again a pair of 259e oscillators provide the sound sources. Both are set up in
tracking mode with the modulation oscillator controlling the morph, and
running in hard sync mode. The principal oscillators are in mem skew "b"
mode at about 2 o'clock. The results are going through the 292e in LPF mode
and then to the 291e to emulate a resonant low pass filter. Buchla running in
Moog mode, if you will. Just more tonal stuff for your enjoyment, and to
demonstrate the range of this instrument, and the 259e in particular.

Wednesday, May 26
On this day...
On this day in 1926 one of the greatest trumpet players to ever blow a horn, Miles Davis, was born in Alton, Illinois to an affluent family. One of Miles Davis' first music teachers, Elwood Buchanan, taught him to play without vibrato, a signature to his sound that Miles kept throughout his career. As Miles himself put it, "I prefer a round sound with no attitude in it, like a round voice with not too much tremolo and not too much bass. Just right in the middle. If I can’t get that sound I can’t play anything."
Upon graduating from High School Miles moved to New York City to attend the prestigious Juilliard School of Music, which he dropped out of school quickly, turned off by Juilliard's classical European instruction. By this time he was already playing professionally with Charlie Parker in Harlem's famous Minton's Playhouse and it was only a few years later that Miles would record his first records as a band leader. Of Course, Miles Davis is best known for the album Kind of Blue, the best selling jazz record of all time! This album was a major shift in jazz from the structure of hard bop to a more melody driven jazz based on modes. Below is a later clip of Miles performing in 1989 on the David Sanborn show Night Music, with bassist Marcus Miller:

Evolution of PC Audio
Saw this clip on Retrothing.com:
Computer audio has come quite a way since 1981 and here is a short video
comparing everything major from the PC speaker to Adlib on up to cards from
today! At least, from the perspective of the Lucasarts classic, The Secret of
Monkey Island. Get your education on, watch and gain respect for your aural
ancestors.
Monkey Island was chosen due to its having the widest amount of versions of
the same song, as compared to other games which didn't support this many
cards. The final version of the song is from the recent "Secret of Monkey Island
Special Edition" on PC/360/PS3.
Some clips recorded by me, others from Crossfire Designs, all awesome.

Skybase - Chain Reaktor
Chaning a bunch of Reaktor instruments toghether gets you some
fun stuff. Here's a live techno instrument made with LimeLite,
FastFX, vOOgle, Flat Blaster 2. While I'm not the creator of these

to get yourself a nice set of things you can play with without
having to program much.

be simply chained and used like so.

I Blame Coco
I Blame Coco is the new band fronted by Sting's daughter, Coco Sumner. Now I usually cringe when I hear of a rockstar's lineage going into the family business (Wilson Phillips anyone?), but Coco appears to be the real deal. Of course it doesn't help that her forthcoming album is being produced by Klas Åhlund of Teddybears fame. Which is probably why Robyn is helping with the chorus on I Blame Coco's first single, Caesar:

-008' Scratch Techniques FREE Reason ReFill
Yo Reason family!
Here is a new freebie, you will have alot of fun with!
I made this "FreeFill" to showcase a new series I am making, called "-008' Scratch Techniques"
In this joint we got the standard "Ahh" & "Fresh" patches.
The most scratched-ed samples of all time?
I thought they would be perfect to demo this technique..
Also included are a "BeatScratch "ToneScratch" "& "SampleScratch"
In those 5 patches, there are over 330 scratched .wav files!
PDF Manual is in the .zip file, READ IT!
but as always, get at me if you need any help.
-008'
Initial impressions:
I have to admit I almost didn't download this refill. You see I'm not really into Hip Hop and didn't think I'd be interested in a scratching refill, but I figured it's made by -008' it must be worth checking out! And it is... Yes, there's scratching for Rap/Hip Hop on here, but there's more to this refill than that. The "Tone Scratch 1" combi would sound killer in an Electro Clash setting and "Sample Scratch 7" is a lot of fun to play with. Obviously a lot of thought went into the included combinators, "Freshmaker" uses D1 as a mute button, which is great for creating stuttering effects (perhaps to mimic crossfaders?) All of the combis are set up with RPG-8 arpeggiators controlling the NNXT samplers, which makes creating scratch patterns quick and easy. Scratch Techniques - it's free, it's by -008', what do you have to lose?

Poly Chain- MoPho Keyboard DSI Dave Smith Instruments
The Mopho Keyboard is a compact and affordable—but powerful—
monophonic analog synthesizer. The voice architecture is similar
to a single voice of the Prophet '08, but with a couple of twists to
distinguish it from its award-winning sibling. We have added two
sub-octave generators—one per oscillator—for additional girth
and crushing basses. It also has an audio input that lets you
process external audio and mix Mopho's own audio output back
in pre-filter for feedback effects that can range from subtle
distortion to extreme skronk. It features the same semi-weighted
keyboard action as the Prophet.

requiem | repeat
music for art as a new art form.
Requiem (365 singhiozzi per Dawson) work on paper by Gianni Moretti
repeat! - suite for printing machines, field recordings, electronics and guitar by Gary Marlowe
being the first collaboration between Moretti and Marlowe, repeat! represents an attempt, a first step on the road of the two artists towards a new form of music in the context of visual art.
based on the works created by Marlowe for his aural frames installations, which pursue the development of music towards absolute singolarity in a defined context and moment in time, the work presented with Moretti is, in the same instant, ambient and also co-protagonist. without creating a dilemma: in an advanced Eno-esque definition, the music is seen in architectonic way, as an inherent part of the ambience in which Moretti´s work is presented. Instead of coming closer to irrepetibilty, as generally attempted by Marlowe in his installations, here the music is being repeated after 33 minutes, merging with the graphic proposal of infinite repetition.
the suite repeat!, which proposes big industrial printing machines as soloists, is made of numerous field recordings of significant ambiences, precisely selected and modified by Marlowe. Some examples are the supertram in Sheffield, a printing room in Cuba, a greek restaurant, printing presses in Idaho and Utrecht, and finally, as the basic ambience of the work, the acoustic image of class of fine arts students visting... right, an art gallery.
leaving behind conventional boundaries between music and sound design, Marlowe proposes a composition of surprising development, with elements both mantric and transcendental. The repetition of unexpected noises brings a profound acoustic experience, close to meditation. A compositorial mirror of the requiem by Moretti, with an uncompromising guitar, in the same moment invading and pleasant, pushing the thoughts to... repeat. da capo.

PROJECT PRESET - Luftrum Ambient soundbank for Camel Audio Alchemy
Luftrum: Ambient is a journey between worlds, from summer afternoons to the icy depths of space. With dense washes of warm, shimmering pads and soundscapes, gentle guitar and piano arpeggios, music boxes, delicate, and ethereal sound effects that totter between beauty and despair, this is a particularly inspiring collection for the ambient musician, film, TV or game soundtrack composer. Its darker elements include chilling machine sounds, disturbing alien atmospheres, the voices of haunted children, water droplets, plus a sprinkling of the avant-garde.
Luftrum is a respected sound designer and electronic experimentalist, known for his Ambient ReFills and atmospheric field recordings. This library incorporates a 127 MB sample library full of fascinating details covering interior and exterior atmospheres, rural ambiences, creatures at rest, and synth soundscapes.

Back FX in Reason (Parts 2 & 3) - Reason 101
A continuation of how to send your FX to the front, back, left and right sections of your mix in Propellerhead Reason and Record. This part of the series goes over creating a few modulations for the FX themselves, and thinking outside the Box / Combinator. In this way you can create some phaser sweeps for the front and back Effects. Thanks to Geoffrey Wakefield for his suggestion on doing something like this.

School of Seven Bells - Babelonia
STEREOGUM is currently premiering Babelonia on-line; the track is the first glimpse of SVIIB's forthcoming album Disconnect From Desire, which comes out July 13th on Vagrant Records. Here's what SVIIB guitarist Benjamin Curtis says about the track:
We realized something else about our music, which is that there’s this heavy quality to it, this powerful quality that we weren’t really aware of because we were just writing at home. Going out and playing every night and discovering that, we got really inspired.

Lost & Found: New York City Nightscapes
This highly unusual Reason ReFill is powered by six years of live nighttime field recording footage captured at various locations all over the Big Apple. Hand-selected gems were processed, resynthesized, combined, mangled and then processed again to produce a truly one-of-a-kind set of sounds for your Reason and Record productions.
Haunting carriage rides through Central Park, ships docking at South Street Seaport, the chatter of tourists and traffic in Times Square, street performers and other "interesting" folk, cars, trains, busses and more from the darkest hours of night in New York, transformed into a diverse, usable, weird and wonderful collection of sonic tools.
Rex Powered
At the heart of every sound in this ReFill is a Rex file. From the drum loops, to the musical elements, to the evolving ambient soundscapes (some nearly two minutes long). Using Rex files to power this collection brings about an entirely new level of sonic potential for your music.
Long-playing field recordings are sliced and diced for instant access to the most interesting elements. The included Combinator instruments, loops and drum kits only begin to scratch the surface. Around every corner is another opportunity for you to take them to entirely new places of your own.
Tech Specs:
Format: Reason 4 ReFill - Instant Download
Contains: 30 Combinator Instruments, 10 Combinator Scenes, 2 Combinator Sound Effects Racks, 3 ReDrum Kits, 40 Drum Hits, 12 Drum Loops, 23 Field Recordings, 11 Field Rhythms, 10 Long Play Soundscapes, 34 Music Elements, 90 Rex Files
Audio Quality: 24 bit Audio and Rex

How to Destroy Angels
How to Destroy Angels is Trent Reznor's new band with sexpot wife Mariqueen Maandig (ex West Indian Girl) handling vocal duties. Wonder if the name is a nod to Angelology? Anyhow, I never could get into Trent's voice but always loved NIN music, so I'm looking forward to this new outing... According to their website they'll have a "Self-titled six-track EP out this summer. Exact date TBA". Apparently Trent isn't auctioning off everything on Ebay. Guess I'll save up for when he auctions off Mariqueen at the end of the Angels tour, because every hipster needs an Asian girlfriend.
UPDATE:
Evidently How to Destroy Angels was the name of Coil's first single, which let's face it is so much better of a name than United/Zyklon B Zombie.
