Rob over @ Reason101.net has a pair of new cds out, called Dark & Light! Dark is an original album featuring 16 tracks and clocking in at over 67 minutes of the glitchy ambient IDM Phi Sequence is known for creating. And Dark is also a great showcase of what is possible with Reason, Rob says that "90% of this album was made entirely with Reason 6 and the Reason 6 FSB". The second LP, Light is a remix record of Dark featuring tracks by James Hopkins, Mr Meeks, BashCoder, Mick Comito, Dig Team One, Holly Nelson, Epigenetik, and Rob even remixes himself!
Dark & Light are available for $9.99 each in either a download format or CD!

"Art is not solitary. In order to grow, we must listen to others and open ourselves up to reinterpretations of our work. This project comprises the work of 8 musicians and producers who provided their talents and skills to reinvent my work. The concept was simple. I provided 20 songs they could remix in any way they chose. This is the outcome.
When I started this project, I had no idea how far it would reach, how much I would learn, nor how much feedback
I would get. What I received in return was innovative and inspiring. The work speaks for itself. And I am truly grateful to call them my friends. My eternal appreciation to them for providing their time and artistic vision. I am humbled for the experience."

Pulveriser Tricks @ Reason 101!
Robert Anselmi over @ Reason101.net has posted a great new article on using Reason 6's Pulveriser creatively called "Pounding the Pulveriser (Part 2)." I particularly dig this video portion of article where he describes using Thor to to trigger the envelope follower in a Pulveriser:

Reason 101 Gator Articles

If you're using Reason 6 you need to check out Rob @ Reason 101's latest articles on the Alligator Triple Filtered Gate Device. Part 1 is a great introduction to the Alligator device, complete with a front and back panel legend of every parameter and function of the gator. Part 1 also includes information on how to set up a Dry/Wet knob for an Alligator based Combinator and best of all how to program your own Alligator patterns using additional Reason devices! Part 2 is where Reason 101 becomes more like Reason 202, with information on adding filter movement, using external effects with Alligator and using multiple Alligators for a "Double-Gate-Filter-FX Channel". Probably the coolest thing I learned from these articles was from the front panel legend - the shift knob "shifts" the patterns forward and backward by a +/-16. As the legend states "Nice to automate pattern shifting" - indeed! Nice work Rob. And don't forget if you're hesitant to jump in and create your own patterns (or just want to check out some great patches by another Reason user), Rob's Pureffects ReFill has 200 original Alligator patches - along with 1,000 more patches that use Reason's other fantastic devices including The Echo, Pulveriser, Scream, RV-7000 and Line 6 amps, all for $49 USD!

200 Pulveriser patches
200 The Echo patches

Mick Comito's ReBirth PCF Combinator
This works in Reason and Record. Mick Comito's creation. He re-
created the PCF (Pattern Controlled Filter) from Propellerhead
ReBirth, and brought its functionality into a Combinator that can
be used in Reason and Record. How sweet is that! Catch him on
Soundcloud under the pseudonym "SoulReason".

Eric Kloeckner's Patches via Reason 101
A few patches from Eric Kloeckner, who was kind enough to offer
them for free to the Reason community. Also included is a new
way to create a 4-way cross-fader without the need for the Thor
Shaper. These patches are available for those with Reason 5.
Have a look and a listen.

Phi Sequence - Standing In A Hallway Staring At The Door

Phi Sequence - Standing In A Hallway Staring At The Door
Rob from Reason 101 kicked off the new year with the release of a brand new album - Standing In A Hallway Staring At The Door. The record is primarily made up of sounds from Rob's own Generations ReFill, which was one of my favorite Reason soundbanks of 2010. Pick up the album for $5.99 at CDBaby.com, which describes the disc this way:
"Melancholic. Symbolic. We've all found ourselves standing in the hallway staring at a door wondering what to do. Whether to knock and enter. Or retreat. This is dark and brooding. This is ambient and glitchy. These are the echoes of thoughts I once had."
Below is a demo version version of Locked, the last song on the album.

Thor Oscillator Mod Fun from Reason 101
Part 1:
Part 2:
Here's a few fun ways to play around with Thor's Oscillators and
use the Malstrom's Modulator Wave shapes to cycle through the
different Carrier, Modulator, Phase Waves, and Wavetables. You
can get really nuts and get some glitchy results, or tame things
a little by keeping the rates slower. Either way, this might give
you some new creative ways to play with your Thor Oscillators.
Cheers!

Re-Triggering the Dr.OctoKong
Here's an easy way to ReTrigger the Dr.OctoKong Looper I put together
for Propellerhead Reason 5 users. ReTrigger all the loops together at
the same time. It stays in sync, and it can be retriggered via one of
Kong's Pads. A great way to add more functionality to your looper.

Dr OctoKong Looper (Part 2)
For Reason 5 users, in this part, I'll show you how you can use a

In this way you can hold up to 112+ Loops that you command from
a single Kong. Enjoy!

Dr. OctoKong - Continual Looping in Reason 5
Learn how to continually loop and play a series of OctoRex files with
Kong. This way each pad turns the loop on and off as a toggle. And
it's super easy to do. In addition, when played on your keyboard (C1
- D#1), you get velocity sensitivity.

Loop Drumming in Kong
This shows how you can have any drum in Kong continually loop
using the Thor step sequencer. Another pad is used to temporarily
turn off the loop and a combinator button is used as a kill switch
to terminate the loop functionality. Hopefully you find this useful

Dr. OctoRex Glitch
Here's another great set of video tutorial from Rob over at Reason 101!
Part 1:
In this series, I'm going to show you a few tricks you can do with the
Dr. OctoRex, a single Rex loop, the separate audio outputs, and some
different Effect devices. The first part goes through setting up a basic
single-loop glitch Combinator.
Part 2:
This second part shows you how to set up the Combinator Modulation
Programming and copying your loop into different OctoRex slots to set
up different slice parameters.
Part 3:
The third and final part of this series talks about how you can apply
CV from a few Thors to completey go off the scale with the Glitch
IDM idea.
