What is Recycle?

Propellerhead's Recycle has been updated to version 2.2! This update includes a new GUI, key commands, an on-line Help system and workflow enhancements. I was lucky enough to beta test this new 64 bit compatible application for the last few months and I have to say the new key commands alone make the upgrade worth while. And if you don't already own Recycle, check out this video to get an idea of it's awesome power for Reason users:

Recycle Update!

Propellerhead released the Recycle 2.2 upgrade today which brings 64-bit compatibility to the program as well as a new look and some workflow improvements. Here's the list:

ReCycle 2.2 Fix List:

-The program is now compatible with 64 bit operating systems.

-ReCyle 2.2 is also a true Cocoa program under Mac OS and fully compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.

-The main window has been graphically redesigned, including new zooming and scrolling. Scrolling is smoother and you can now zoom in further. Some redundant controls have been removed and others added.

-When exporting AIFF and Wave files, Record/Reason-style tempo information is now included in the file. Also, when importing audio files created in Record or Reason, the tempo information in those files is used for setting tempo and length in ReCycle.

-The Waveform now indicates graphically what sound will be played back, by dimming silent sections.

-You can now use the Q, W, E and R keys to select tools.

-The Preference dialog has been streamlined and updated.

-Open Recent (documents) is now a sub-menu on Mac OS.

-The status bar has been removed.

-We have removed support for the Sound Designer II, Mixman and SampleCell formats since these are all outdated.

-The authorization system and copy protection has been changed, reducing the risk of having to reauthorize the program.

-Installation under Mac OS is now drag and drop (no installer).

Propellerhead Software in the Classroom

For the past 10 years music producers, beat-makers, sound designers, and game composers have made Reason's highly creative environment a mainstay of their toolbox. All the while Reason has become a mainstay of the education process as well.

To see how Propellerhead Software's Reason 5, Record 1.5, and Recycle are being taught in the classroom, we visited some top institutions around the world. These educators let us into their classrooms and studios to discuss how they're leveraging the power of the Reason rack to teach not only in-the-box desktop audio production, but hardware-based studio production and even studio wiring/design as well.

52 Reason / Record Tips - Week 36: Comping Takes Together in Record

It's nearly unimaginable to think about early music recording. Musicians had
to record their songs in one take direct to wax/acetate records. 100 copies
of an album meant recording 100 flawless takes for every musician playing
together! Compare that to today and Record 1.5's "Comp Editor." You can
cycle through recording, doing take after take after take, choosing the best
parts of each, and stitching them together into one flawless performance.
This week I'll show you how.

Siel MDP-40 Rex Files on Reason Patch a Day!

I sent Robb over at Reason Patch-a-Day some audio clips of one of my favorite rhythm machines, the Siel MDP-40, a week or so back so he could Recycle them into Rex files for us! There's six clips of the Siel run thru a couple of my favorite effects pedals. Go get them!

28 May - Mark Your Calenders!

Some big news is dropping this week at Propellerheads headquarters! Reason 5? Recycle 3? I'm hoping to hell it's a combination of the two. I'd love a wav slicing Dr. Recycler inside of Record with an updated sampler for Reason 5 with granular synthesizer capabilities. What are your hopes?

Making Loops and Looping Them With Recycle

How to get loops (especially those with reverb and/or delay) to loop smoothly for use in Reason, using Propellerhead ReCycle. The loop was made in Cubase 4.5 using Blue, and I will edit it in ReCycle. The loop is recorded with Delay to show how to loop sounds which contain delay or reverb (or both!)
