Detailed look at Repeat Looper Rack Extension for Reason

I love the look of Ochen K's new Rack Extension - Repeat RE. It's laid out in a logical fashion with a nod to the classic Electrix Repeater hardware sampler, and with the low price of $19 USD there's no reason not to pick it up today!

"Repeat is a 4-channel, real-time, live-looper that allows you to record, loop, mix, and arrange audio all in real time. Infinitely bounce and merge audio channels, route each channel through its own effects, and sync multiple Repeats together to expand the channel count."

Reason 7 Video Overview w/ James Bernard

If you're like me, you miss the JB tutorials featured by the Props, so it's good to see James Bernard talking about Reason again, plus his new affiliation with dubspot should be interesting:

"In this video, Dubspot instructor and Reason guru James Bernard takes a look at Propellerhead Reason 7's new features including MIDI / CV output, the spectrum EQ analyzer, parallel processing, some new retro effects, and the addition of ReCycle to the already powerful music production and sound design software."

Using MIDI Hardware with Reason - Micro Tutorial

One of the most exciting new additions to the Rack in Reason 7 is the External MIDI Instrument. In the latest Reason Micro Tutorial the Props show how to set up this new device with a DSI Mopho:

"The Reason Rack offers nearly endless sonic capabilities. But what if you just want the sound of your favorite hardware synth? Or that weird little drum machine you got half-price. In this tutorial we take a look at the External MIDI Instrument and how it can help you expand your Reason rack with your hardware."

Mutemath in the Moog Sound Lab

I've dug Mutemath since catching them live in San Francisco years ago at the Hemlock Tavern. Here's a newly unearthed clip from 2011 when they visited the Moog Sound Lab:

"Back in 2011 Mutemath stepped into the Moog factory to record a Moog Sound Lab Session, here they transform "Blood Pressure" from their 2011 LP "Odd Soul".

For those of you curious about the instrumentation:

"Blood Pressure" fades in with Darren playing pulsing bass lines in the verse and higher etherial notes on Animoog, being controlled by a Minimoog Voyager.

Paul sings and plays a Little Phatty Stage II, holding out elongated single lines while opening and closing the Filter Cutoff knob with the Resonance set high.

Roy uses his Minimoog Voyager Select Series for low rumbling bass to hold the foundation.

Darren plays the Trap-Kat, triggering 3 Minimoog Voyager Rack Mounts through an MF-104Z Analog Delay for rhythmic echo."

Bonobo Live on KCRW

Bonobo stopped by KCRW this morning to perform:

"U.K. musician/producer Bonobo joined Morning Becomes Eclectic after a weekend of sold out shows and brought his full backing band with him. With a vinyl string bass guitar, woodwind players and celestial vocals from Szjerdene, he played songs off his new album "The North Borders." Check out the full session."

DJ Spooky: A Civil War Symphony

That Subliminal Kid is at it again with a new multimedia work curated by the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art called A Civil War Symphony. This event is part of a new DJ Spooky Met residency and is scheduled for May 10th, 7:00pm and will be live-streamed!

"Working in tandem with Jeff L. Rosenheim, curator of Photographs at the Museum, Paul D. Miller (a.k.a. DJ Spooky: That Subliminal Kid) presents a newly created piece for string ensemble with live-mixed electronic music and video using images from the exhibition Photography and the American Civil War."

Novation Bass Station II - Sonic State

Reason 7's MIDI out module has a lot of people thinking about what monosynth they'd like to control with their Rack. Sonic State latest video, a look at the forthcoming Bass Station II from Novation, may help you with that decision:
