On this day in 1947 French chanteuse France Gall was born in Paris into a musical family. France's father, Robert Gall, was a renowned lyricist and had written for French national treasure Édith Piaf. While her maternal grandfather was co-founder of Petits Chanteurs à la Croix de Bois. France Gall's first single, "Ne sois pas si bête", debuted on her 16th birthday and became a hit; after which, Denis Bourgeois, the artistic director for France Gall's record label urged Serge Gainsbourg to write for France and the pairing produced many great songs, including "Laisse Tomber les Filles":
