On this day in 1956, singer David Vanian (born David Letts) was born in Hemel Hempstead, England. David is famous for singing in The Damned, the first British punk band to release a single, an album, and tour the USA. While The Damned have recently started playing again with many of the original members, Vanian was the only original member who played with the band thru all it's incarnations... from early punk to gothic/new wave romance.
