On this day in 1957, saxophonist Lee Jay "Kix" Thompson was born in London, England. Lee was a founding member of the English Two-Tone band Madness and wrote many of their songs, including "The Prince" - which was the band's first single. While the band started as a traditional Ska group in the 1970's second wave scene, their real success came when they adopted a more pop sound the next decade. Between 1980 and 1986 Madness spent 214 weeks on the U.K. Singles chart, which was more than any other group. Below is the video for "Embarrassment", a song penned by Lee Jay:
