Hi I'm -008'

I have been passionate about music since I was very young.
At 10 yrs old I wrote & recorded my first song with my brother.
We used my Dad's 4 track tape machine. I've always played
guitar, bass, drums and keys but when I first got hold of a laptop
and software, I was hooked! Growing up analog and going all
digital was tough for me and I wanted to learn more.
Soon after that I was enrolling at BerkleeMusic.

Taking the online courses helped me in many ways from boosting
my confidence to training my ears. Crtitical Listening really got me
hearing on multiple levels, while courses like The Future of Music
opened my mind to new ideas and ways of thinking. I graduated
a little over one year ago with my Masters Certificate. I had never
used Propellerheads Reason before Berklee but, after learning it in
school, I started a blog, that grew to a full-fledged website.
008refills.com now has 16 original Reason ReFills (8 free!) and there
are currently over 4,500 subscribers downloading and using my
sounds worldwide. The Propellerheads themselves have my "Hitman
Drums vol.2" in their own Prop Shop, and most recently, there are a
few -008' effect patches built into the Record Factory Soundbank!

These successes, however small, are a direct result of my Berkleemusic education.
Going to school was the best thing I ever did for my music, and it shows!

Thank you for reviewing my submission,

Beat Triggers from -008'

Just received an e-mail from -008' about his latest freebie - Beat Triggers:

"-008’ Beat Triggers is a bunch of lo-fi loops i made from my various machines, and then recycled.
I did this in anticipation of the new Dr.Octo Rex and Nurse Rex in Reason 5….I can’t wait to use them!
..but i can prepare myself with fresh rex’s! ;)

These are great for adding percussive elements to your beats.
You got a hot kick and snare? Add some beat triggers and heat it up even more.
Having Writer’s Block? Start with some beat triggers for new inspiration.
Open a few of the Rexs in an NN-XT with an RPG-8 and make your own new rhythmic elements.

Contains 30 Rex Loops, all were made at 90BPM and fed through a crappy digital fx unit just for fun!
NOW UPDATED FOR REASON 5
With Octorex & Kongs"

-008' Scratch Techniques FREE Reason ReFill

Yo Reason family!

Here is a new freebie, you will have alot of fun with!
I made this "FreeFill" to showcase a new series I am making, called "-008' Scratch Techniques"

In this joint we got the standard "Ahh" & "Fresh" patches.
The most scratched-ed samples of all time?
I thought they would be perfect to demo this technique..
Also included are a "BeatScratch "ToneScratch" "& "SampleScratch"
In those 5 patches, there are over 330 scratched .wav files!

PDF Manual is in the .zip file, READ IT!
but as always, get at me if you need any help.

Initial impressions:

I have to admit I almost didn't download this refill. You see I'm not really into Hip Hop and didn't think I'd be interested in a scratching refill, but I figured it's made by -008' it must be worth checking out! And it is... Yes, there's scratching for Rap/Hip Hop on here, but there's more to this refill than that. The "Tone Scratch 1" combi would sound killer in an Electro Clash setting and "Sample Scratch 7" is a lot of fun to play with. Obviously a lot of thought went into the included combinators, "Freshmaker" uses D1 as a mute button, which is great for creating stuttering effects (perhaps to mimic crossfaders?) All of the combis are set up with RPG-8 arpeggiators controlling the NNXT samplers, which makes creating scratch patterns quick and easy. Scratch Techniques - it's free, it's by -008', what do you have to lose?

-008's One Year Anniversary!

Just received word from -008' that it's his one year anniversary in the business:

Hey Guys!

Hope you all are makin some hot beats...

I am celebrating my one year in business. Thanks for signing up and I have big things planned for the next year!

Feel free to give me a shout on any new refills you want to see in the future.

Peace & Good Music.

-008'

According to About.com a traditional first year anniversary gift is paper. They recommend framed photographs, books, stationary, coupons (wtf?), or love letters. But you know what else is made of paper? Money! Why don't you head over to www.008refills.com and pick up one of his killer Reason ReFills! I recommend Drumutations.

-008's Random Handrum

New for -008' Beat Blog subscribers:

My cohort 13ruce 1337 recently sent me a 3 min 28 sec recording he made of a handrum. He said it was only a "warmup" type track, but I thought it sounded great!

First, I ReCycled the file and made a bunch of loops. I then used those rex files to build the combinators, and now we have the "Random Handrum"

Combinators Include:

Matrex Rextrix [RUN]
Matrix & Rex fun..Careful with those curve patterns! ;)

Multisamp
Velocity arranged slices. Small but fun

Percul8in'
Gluttonous overuse of rpg-8

Alt Fills
Fast off beat, 2 keys at a time works best. C1 to B1

FSB Twerk (Factory Example)
Factory Sound Bank, 3 Note Patch C1 to D1

Redrum Pattern Player (and empty)
Browse slice samples, step sequence your patterns, & play

MODE (Rotary) and HOLD (Button) are the most important things to remember!
